Anyone who has spent some time in Pittsburgh knows of the raging debate between Mineo’s and Aiello’s pizza in Squirrel Hill. Both have die hard followings behind them, and are the kind of places you hear coming up in favorite pizza shop lists time and time again.
We ordered Mineo’s with great excitement (after a very long gap since our last visit when we lived in Squirrel Hill), and we’ve got to say, we were really let down.
Aiello’s is a popular pizza shop in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood that has a rather die-hard following behind it. Throw in a customer rivalry with neighboring pizza shop, Mineo’s, and you have the makings of a great spot to visit.
We used to frequent Aiello’s often when we lived in Squirrel Hill, and despite a fairly large gap in our visit history, I finally made it back in for a few slices!
Siempre Algo in Deutschtown is a modern American restaurant with a seasonal menu and a solid bar program.
As North Side residents, we are extremely grateful for the new life that Siempre Algo and other new stores and restaurants are breathing in to East Ohio Street. And we are even more ecstatic that Siempre Algo is actually doing a great job so far!
Chick’n Bubbly is a Korean fried chicken and bubble tea joint located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.
While chicken and bubble tea are the two stars of the menu, this fast service restaurant also has a number of Japanese sides including menchi katsu and takoyaki to name a few.
I visited this one after hearing rave reviews from friends and was not disappointed.
The Strip District is often considered to be the most vibrant neighborhood in Pittsburgh, and it doesn’t take long after a first visit to understand why. The concentration of restaurants, international markets, vendors, and boutique shops is larger there than anywhere else in the city.
Restaurants and businesses open in this neighborhood all the time, as you would expect, and add into the neighborhood’s allure bit by bit- each with their own personal touch.
The Pennsylvania Market officially opened in the Strip District in late 2018 and opted to blast beyond being just another restaurant or shop. Instead, this one offers well over a dozen unique shopping, dining, and drinking options all in one beautiful location.

Bird on the Run is a small fried chicken joint in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty that boasts late night hours, extra hot chicken, and frozen cocktails for those wanting something just a bit different with their meal.
We went to this one after having drinks in the neighborhood and are really pleased to say that this is not just another a formal sit-down restaurant!
Coughlin’s Law opened in Mount Washington in 2018 and has quickly grown to be one of the neighborhood’s most popular hangout spots.
Armed with a large bar, ample seating, an outdoor patio with a partial city view, and a wonderful happy hour, this particular spot’s popularity should be a surprise to no one.

There are a ton of unassuming barbecue joints in the region, and one you’ve likely passed by several times but never stopped at is Mitch’s BBQ on Perry Highway in Warrendale, PA.
A friend of ours gave us the recommendation to go here and we are quite happy that we finally made the stop to check this one out!
We love finding out about new bars in Pittsburgh, and when our friends at Take Back Roads informed us of a whiskey bar almost hiding in plain sight in Greenfield, we were in for a drink (or three).
Since J Gough’s Tavern has one of the most beautiful walls of whiskey we’ve ever seen, three was sadly just not cutting it.
Zombie Den was canceled for the 2020 season and we are unsure if this one is returning for 2021.
