Pittsburgh is a sports city, there is no doubt about it.
We are lucky enough to have so much going on in the local sports scene that not a week goes by without a professional game of some sort. Throw on regional and local teams, and you have the opportunity to get out and enjoy a sporting event seemingly whenever you'd like.
In this one, we thought we'd take a look at all of the sports teams you would want to check out in the city, from the famous teams in the biggest leagues to minor leagues, colleges, and the independent groups you can join for a pickup game.

- Pitt Panthers – The University of Pittsburgh's NCAA Division I football team playing home games at Acrisure Stadium. Regular season typically runs August to November.
Hockey
It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh! We always love cheering on the Penguins on their quest for another Stanley Cup!
- Pittsburgh Penguins – The city's professional hockey team playing games at PPG Paints Arena in Uptown. Regular season typically runs October to April.

Baseball is one of the city's most popular sports, and between the Pirates, the Washington Wild Things, and college sports, there are many games to check out!
- Pittsburgh Pirates – The city's MLB team playing frequent games at PNC Park on the North Shore. Regular season typically runs March to September.

- Washington Wild Things – Frontier League baseball team playing home games at Wild Things Park in Washington, PA. Regular season typically runs May to August.
- Pitt Panthers Baseball – Univeristy of Pittsburgh's ACC baseball team playing home games at the Petersen Sports Complex. Regular season typically runs February to May.
Soccer
Soccer is growing in popularity in Pittsburgh in recent years, and there are many great opportunities to check out this classic sport in the city.
- Pittsburgh Riverhounds – USL Championship league soccer at Highmark Stadium in South Side. Regular season typically runs March to October.
- Pittsburgh Riveters – All-female soccer team in the USL W league playing games at Highmark Stadium. First season expected in 2025.
- Steel City FC Men's and Women's – Soccer club with youth to adult services in both men's and women's leagues. First teams typically play at Founders Field from April to July.

Although Pittsburgh doesn't have a professional basketball team in the NBA, we have numerous organizations, particularly colleges, thriving in the basketball scene!
- Pitt Panthers – University of Pittsburgh's resident basketball team, which plays home games at the Petersen Event Center in Oakland. Regular season typically runs October to March.
- Duquesne Dukes – Duquense's resident A10 basketball team, playing home games at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Regular season typically runs October to March.
- Robert Morris Colonials – RMU's resident basketball team, playing home games at UPMC Events Center in Moon Township. Regular season typically runs October to March.
- Steel City Yellowjackets – Pittsburgh's resident ABA basketball team. Regular season typically runs November to March.
- Steel City Queens – Pittsburgh's women ABA basketball team. Regular season typically runs July to August.
Other Sports
Many other sports are represented in Pittsburgh, either via games you can watch or other leagues to join and participate, including the roller derby, dodgeball, and so much more!
- Pittsburgh Roller Derby – A local roller derby league with teams like the Undead, Zom-Bees, and Ghouls.
- Three Rivers Dodgeball – Pittsburgh's resident dodgeball club, typically playing games on Wednesdays throughout the city.
- Pittsburgh Curling Club – Our local curling club playing on Olympic style rinks in McKees Rocks. Watch out for their Learn to Curl classes for the public!
- Pittsburgh Thunderbirds Ultimate Frisbee – The city's resident UFA ultimate frisbee team, playing home games at Highmark Stadium. Regular season typically runs May to July.
- Steelwheelers – A local organization for wheelchair users for rugby, basketball, and handcycling.
- Pittsburgh Harlequins – A local rugby team that plays at Founders Field, typically from August to October.
