Siempre Algo in Deutschtown is a modern American restaurant with a seasonal menu and a solid bar program.

As North Side residents, we are extremely grateful for the new life that Siempre Algo and other new stores and restaurants are breathing in to East Ohio Street. And we are even more ecstatic that Siempre Algo is actually doing a great job so far!

Upscale Dining Comes to the North Side

Cocktails at Siempre Algo

We dined shortly after opening and were immediately impressed with the design of the space. The original tin ceilings give an old school Pittsburgh vibe, while the bar design and sleek gray/neutral decor create a modern feel.

As we were seated we were given complimentary glasses of Prosecco- a very nice touch for all guests. The host and our server also immediately acknowledged my tree nut allergy that I had mentioned in our reservation, putting my mind at ease.

Although the wine list was fairly extensive, the cocktail menu was calling our name so we ordered a Corpse Reviver and the rum Sahr. The Corpse Reviver was quite lemony at first but then mellowed out with a good balance of gin, Cointreau, and Lillet Blanc.

The Rum Sahr was delightfully creamy and smooth with an egg white, aged rum, lime, Aperol, and maple syrup.

Pretzels and Pate at Siempre Algo

An order of pretzels started off our meal in a great way with their beautiful crust and tender, moist interior. A grainy mustard smeared on the plate and an optional add on of chicken liver mousse made decadent accompaniments.

Roasted Cauliflower

The other appetizer/salad choices that we ordered were just fine but not particularly memorable. The roasted cauliflower had a tahini sauce and peppers which on paper sounded good but probably needed a bit more sauce to boost the flavor. The cauliflower was roasted to golden perfection, though.

We also ordered the carrot salad with roasted carrots with a zaatar spice resting on top of lettuce, which seemed promising but would have benefited from a dressing or sauce to tie it all together.

Siempre Algo's Roasted Chicken

For entrees we ordered the roasted chicken as well as the roasted mushrooms. The roasted chicken was tender and juicy but the real star was the brandied chicken liver bread pudding. This side was everything we never knew we wanted: comforting, savory, rich, and well-seasoned.

The roasted mushroom entree was also perfectly on point. A bright green spinach sauce coated the accompanying farro that had just enough bite to give a good texture. Several different kinds of mushrooms appeared in the dish and were roasted to just the right doneness. Pickled hot peppers on top gave a great tangy and spicy bite to liven and lighten up the dish.

Roasted Mushroom entree- perfect for fall!

Although there was quite a pause between our appetizers and entrees, other than that we were completely impressed with the very attentive service throughout the meal, especially given that the restaurant had just recently opened. The staff was great at anticipating our needs and answering questions about menu items.

We look forward to seeing how Siempre Algo will continue to grow and evolve, and we are incredibly happy to welcome them to the neighborhood!
