The Bloop Museum Showcases the History of Modern Electronics

The Bloop Museum was a long-standing pop-up in Baltimore, showcasing the history of modern electronics in all forms from early RAM to the computers and electronic systems we are familiar with today.

But in 2026, The Bloop Museum relocated to Penn Hills Township, just east of Pittsburgh, and has slowly been building out their space for private tours and open houses.

So, naturally, we had to go check this one early in its build-out, and wanted to share a bit more about what you can see in this one!

Note: It is worth re-iterating that the Bloop Museum is, as of article publication, still a work in progress. Many rooms are still under construction and the museum plans larger expansions over time. What you may see in a future visit may have more/different exhibits than what we saw in our visit in June 2026.

The Redbank Valley Trail Offers an Easy Bike Ride in Nature

We love that there are so many great rail trails in southwest Pennsylvania, and for those who like to get out and explore, you have hundreds of miles of trails to enjoy in the area.

A bit further away from Pittsburgh lies the Redbank Valley Trail, which runs approximately 42 miles from the Allegheny River near East Brady (connecting to the Armstrong Trail) all the way up to Brookville, PA, near I-80.

Naturally, we had to make the roughly 75-minute trip to a mid-point on the trail in New Bethlehem, PA, to check out the 20 miles closest to the city and wanted to share what you can expect when biking this stretch of the Redbank Valley Trail in this one!

We made our way up to Hartwood Acres to check out a show and wanted to share a bit more about what you can expect and how to get the most out of these free events!

Scraposaurs Invade Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in 2026

The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in Oakdale is one of our favorite nature spaces in southwest Pennsylvania, and its mission to convert the former industrial site into a collection of beautiful gardens is nothing short of impressive.

One element of the gardens that we love, in addition to the nature, of course, is that they often have extra art and decorations that change throughout the years. In 2026, the Scraposaurs have invaded the garden, and these dinosaurs made out of reclaimed metal fit in just right with the reclaimed nature of the park itself!

Okane Sushi Review – Omakase Dining in Downtown Pittsburgh

As big fans of all things Japanese cuisine, we have been thrilled to see many higher-end restaurants open up in the city serving sushi and other regional specialties.

Okane in downtown Pittsburgh is one such restaurant, and focuses on a prix-fixe omakase experience with 16 to 20 courses. We have had many omakase dinners like this during our travels in Japan, and it is one of our favorite dining styles to try chef-curated bites over the course of an evening.

So we booked a reservation for my birthday and made our way downtown to try this one out shortly after it opened!
