Tacomania Food Truck Rally Satisfies All Taco Cravings and Then Some

We are firm believers that Pittsburgh needs more food truck rallies, and we'll never say no to an opportunity to get out and sample several trucks in a single outing.

As such, when we heard about the end-of-summer Tacomania food truck rally in Millvale, featuring roughly 16 food trucks (all slinging unique taco creations), we had to go!

This one is a taco feast you really must check out.

CJ Big Pour Beer Festival – Our Kind of Fundraiser (With Beer)

Construction Junction is one of our favorite re-use centers in Pittsburgh, and every year the facility puts on a fundraiser in the form of a beer festival known as the CJ Steel City Big Pour.

We've been wanting to attend this one for a while, but the relatively expensive ticket prices had kept us away for a while (it is still a fundraiser, after all). But while it took us a bit longer than we would've liked to finally attend this one, we made it happen and attended the afternoon session of Big Pour #13.

Armed with our glasses, our necklace cupholders, and a thirst, we hit the festival to see what it is all about.

Party on the Mount Celebrates Mount Washington’s Businesses

If you're like us, odds are good you love Mount Washington. Between a number of good restaurants, the iconic inclines, and of course, the stellar views, it should be no surprise why it is such a well-loved neighborhood (and as former residents, especially so for us).

For those who can't get enough of this Pittsburgh neighborhood, be sure to snag tickets to the annual Party on the Mount that takes place each September!

Millvale Food Truck Roundup is the Rally Pittsburgh Needs

If there is one thing that Pittsburgh certainly lacks, it is food truck rallies.

We have amazing food trucks in Pittsburgh, and apart from finding them at breweries and periodic events, getting to enjoy an assortment of food trucks can be tricky at times.

There was the brief attempt at a food truck park, but when that did not return after its first season it seemed like we were back to the drawing board. Enter the Millvale Food Truck Roundup, a periodic food truck rally that takes place at Grist House and Strange Roots on select weekends throughout the year.

It may be our favorite food truck rally yet.

Churchview Farm’s Happy Hour Series Offers a Serene Hilltop Experience

Churchview Farm is an urban hilltop in Baldwin, just south of Pittsburgh, that is popular for their frequent dinner and happy hour pop-ups.

But when we say popular, we really mean it- tickets to these events often sell out within minutes!

We were fortunate enough to snag two tickets to a happy hour at Churchview Farm, and wanted to share what the experience was like in this one!

VegFest Serves Up Vegan Fare and Themed Products at This Festival

Sometimes we visit festivals after doing minimal research, if only because we want to take things in without any preconceived thoughts on what it should be like.

We can safely say we did this for the Pittsburgh VegFest (which takes place in the North Side each August) because we only learned of one very interesting point just before arriving- this one is a vegan festival.

This little detail only made the event better.

Little Italy Days Misses Out on Italy and Bloomfield

In general, we don't like to say that something is a complete miss, because odds are good if a business, experience, or event is not for us there may be reasons that others like it. So even in our most negative of reviews, we can often preface things as to why they're not for us.

We're going to try to do this for Little Italy Days in Bloomfield (which occurs each August), but we have to say, this one falls about as flat as it can get.

Why? This one misses out on both the Italy and Bloomfield connections that we hoped for.

Celebrating All Things Pickle at the Picklesburgh Festival

If there should be an award for a festival that has come the furthest in recent years, it would most certainly be Picklesburgh.

When the event first started in 2015, we were underwhelmed. The Clemente Bridge was crowded shoulder-to-shoulder with patrons, and the number of vendors with pickle themed products was, well, few and far between. Apart from the gigantic pickle floating over the bridge, we did not get any pickle love at all.

Thankfully, after a while, this festival came around and became one of the premier pickle festivals out there. The crowds kept getting bigger and bigger (to a detriment, at times), and Picklesburgh became one of the top events in Pittsburgh each and every year.

The Roxian Theatre is a Stunning Music Venue in McKees Rocks

We always love hearing about theaters that have been restored to their former glory, and the Roxian Theatre in McKees Rocks is just that.

This theater space originally opened in 1929, and over the course of time closed and sat empty. In recent years the theater underwent renovations before opening its doors for performances in early 2019.

As soon as we heard about this, we naturally had to buy tickets and ended up getting in to check out a performance by the Aquabats and Reel Big Fish shortly after the theater opened for business.
