Hyeholde’s Prix Fixe Delight – Six Courses with Beer Pairing

After visiting the stunning Hyeholde in Moon Township for our anniversary, we knew we would have to return for one of their prix fixe dinner experiences (either the chef's table or a periodic themed menu offering).

Shortly thereafter, we got our chance with Hyeholde's annual beer dinner with Altered Genius Brewing to celebrate the release of their collaboration house beer, the Hyeholde Grisette.

We were guests of Hyeholde for this beer pairing dinner with Altered Genius Brewing, and share more in this review from this incredible six-course feast!

Biking from Pittsburgh to Washington DC – Everything to Know

One of our favorite activities on a nice day in Pittsburgh is hitting one of our many area bike trails.

Naturally, one trail we ride on the most is the famous Great Allegheny Passage, which spans 150-miles from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland, where it subsequently connects to the C&O Canal Towpath and continues on to Washington DC for a roughly 335-mile total ride.

For many years, we would ride the GAP in short segments, tackling 20-40 mile round-trip rides here or there. But we always wanted to do the entire bike ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC, and finally made our dream a reality with a fun, six-day ride in September 2025.

So in this one, we wanted to go down the rabbit hole of everything you need to know when planning to bike from Pittsburgh to DC. Buckle up, because we do mean everything here!

Note: Most of the commentary in this article is based on our experience biking and staying in B&Bs along the way. While we will discuss camping options briefly, our itineraries are built around staying in dedicated accommodations every night.

10 of the Best Airbnbs in the Laurel Highlands for a Getaway

When you think of the Laurel Highlands, you may not realize just how big the area is. This one encompasses Westmoreland, Fayette, and Somerset Counties and runs all the way from New Kensington in the north to Ohiopyle in the South and well past Mount Davis to the East (a solid two-hour drive from Pittsburgh).

As far as rentals are concerned, the vast majority of apartments in the Laurel Highlands are found in the area in and around Ohiopyle thanks to the numerous (and popular) parks that are nearby. Despite this, there are some pretty awesome Airbnbs found elsewhere in the Laurel Highlands too, and we did not want to overlook a few of them (specifically some in the furthest reaches of Somerset County).

As such, while most of the Laurel Highland apartment rentals featured below are within close proximity to Ohiopyle State Park and others nearby, some can be a considerable distance away. As such, we strongly encourage you to check the maps prior to making any bookings as the driving times for stops on your itinerary could be significant if you do not notice this in advance.

Notes: All images are credited to Airbnb and their respective hosts. We have not personally stayed in the below rentals, but frequently book apartments when traveling and think the properties have many of the highlights we look for when renting- namely great locations, amenities, and reviews to name a few. These will be highlighted in more detail within the article although booking conditions may have changed since the initial publication.

A Fair in the Park Brings Artists to Mellon Park

We are fortunate to have so many talented artists in the Pittsburgh area. With these artists come the art shows, and there are truly a number of excellent events to enjoy throughout the year.

One annual event that has become one of our favorites is A Fair in the Park by the Craftmen's Guild of Pittsburgh. This one showcases 80+ artists (many of whom are local members of the guild) with a variety of mediums, with the stunning Mellon Park as the backdrop for three days every September.

A stroll around the park while shopping for art on a nice late-summer's day? It really is hard to beat that one- if you can get parking at least.
