Vintage and Local Goods at the Pittsburgh Neighborhood Flea

We are always on the lookout for unique places to shop in Pittsburgh, and the seasonal Neighborhood Flea marketplace is definitely one such spot. With local vendors selling vintage and handmade goods, the Neighborhood Flea reminds us of a hybrid of the Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer and Handmade Arcade, two other fantastic events for shopping and supporting local businesses.

Stage AE Concerts – What is the Venue Like for a Show?

If you were to poll the music crowd in Pittsburgh about their least favorite venue in the city, odds are good you're going to hear a pretty uniform response that it is Star Lake based on their notorious parking issues alone.

But if you ask us, we're probably going to say Stage AE is ours.

They don't have the same parking issues, but we found no shortage of things to dislike about this venue after a recent show.

As with our other concert reviews, this one is not about the Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys concert (they were awesome), but is instead all about what Stage AE concerts are like.

Primanti Brothers and Mrs. T’s Pierogies Team Up for ‘The Polish Hill’

Two things are true about Pittsburgh's food scene: we love to put fries on top of everything, and pierogies are a staple part of our diets.

The origin of the former tradition is, naturally, Primanti Brothers, whose popular sandwiches cultivated the fries-as-a-topping phenomenon we know today.

On the pierogy side of the spectrum no one has popularized the dish more in the regional diet than the Shenandoah, Pennsylvania-based Mrs. T's Pierogies, the largest producer of frozen pierogies in the country.

For the longest time these two grew in their own cuisines independently, but this year they have joined forces to create a sandwich that combines Pittsburgh's two love affairs into one: The Polish Hill sandwich.

We were invited to Primanti Brothers by the folks at Mrs. T's Pierogies to check this one out, and are really glad we did.

Each May the magazine unveils their top restaurants for the year (generally 30-40 picks) as selected by an independent panel. This unveiling culminates in their annual Best Restaurant Party that takes place at Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) in early June- with many of the top Pittsburgh restaurants participating!

I was invited out to the 2019 event as a media guest of Pittsburgh Magazine and wanted to share my thoughts of this annual event!

Attending Kayafest for One of the Strip District’s Best Parties

Kayafest is the annual block party by the popular Strip District restaurant (and one of our favorites), Kaya.

Taking place each May, this one offers about eight hours of live music (with many bands inspired by the Caribbean), opportunities to eat street food made from the chefs at the restaurant, and of course, copious amounts of refreshments.

As block parties in the Strip District are few and far between, it is also one of only a few times of the year that a section of Smallman Street is shut down for an entire day- giving you an opportunity to enjoy the Strip District in a completely new way.
