Aiello’s Pizza Review – A Staple in Squirrel Hill

Aiello's is a popular pizza shop in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood that has a rather die-hard following behind it. Throw in a customer rivalry with neighboring pizza shop, Mineo's, and you have the makings of a great spot to visit.

We used to frequent Aiello's often when we lived in Squirrel Hill, and despite a fairly large gap in our visit history, I finally made it back in for a few slices!

Chick’n Bubbly Review – Fast Korean Fried Chicken in Oakland

Chick'n Bubbly is a Korean fried chicken and bubble tea joint located in the heart of Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood.

While chicken and bubble tea are the two stars of the menu, this fast service restaurant also has a number of Japanese sides including menchi katsu and takoyaki to name a few.

I visited this one after hearing rave reviews from friends and was not disappointed.

The Pennsylvania Market Brings an Array of Shops to the Strip

The Strip District is often considered to be the most vibrant neighborhood in Pittsburgh, and it doesn't take long after a first visit to understand why. The concentration of restaurants, international markets, vendors, and boutique shops is larger there than anywhere else in the city.

Restaurants and businesses open in this neighborhood all the time, as you would expect, and add into the neighborhood's allure bit by bit- each with their own personal touch.

The Pennsylvania Market officially opened in the Strip District in late 2018 and opted to blast beyond being just another restaurant or shop. Instead, this one offers well over a dozen unique shopping, dining, and drinking options all in one beautiful location.

Note: Restaurants and concepts at The Pennsylvania Market may have changed since our initial publication.

Bird on the Run Review – Hot Fried Chicken in Pittsburgh

Bird on the Run is a small fried chicken joint in Pittsburgh's East Liberty that boasts late night hours, extra hot chicken, and frozen cocktails for those wanting something just a bit different with their meal.

We went to this one after having drinks in the neighborhood and are really pleased to say that this is not just another a formal sit-down restaurant!

Coughlin’s Law Review – A Gastropub With A View

Coughlin's Law opened in Mount Washington in 2018 and has quickly grown to be one of the neighborhood's most popular hangout spots.

Armed with a large bar, ample seating, an outdoor patio with a partial city view, and a wonderful happy hour, this particular spot's popularity should be a surprise to no one.

We were invited out as guests of Coughlin's Law to check out the space and their rather robust food menu, and share our thoughts in this full review!

J Gough’s Tavern Review – A Well Curated Whiskey Bar in Greenfield

We love finding out about new bars in Pittsburgh, and when our friends at Take Back Roads informed us of a whiskey bar almost hiding in plain sight in Greenfield, we were in for a drink (or three).

Since J Gough's Tavern has one of the most beautiful walls of whiskey we've ever seen, three was sadly just not cutting it.

The Quest for the Best Barbecue in Pittsburgh

If you would've asked us about Pittsburgh's barbecue scene when we started this site, we probably would've replied with a sarcastic “what barbecue scene?”

To put it bluntly: while there were a few gems scattered around, the offerings around the city were quite sad.

This is all changing, however, and many barbecue joints have opened up around Pittsburgh that are starting to put our ‘que scene on the map. (Or perhaps our map, at least.)

As with most articles of this nature on our site, we do not publish definitive best-of lists as we do not want to hand out the top spots until we've truly tried them all. Instead, we go on quests to find the city's best meals, like our quest to find the best pizza in Pittsburgh or the best reubens in Pittsburgh to name a few, and update our guides with the best spots as we visit them.

In this one we're looking for the best barbecue in Pittsburgh, and we've been to a number of amazing spots so far!

Note: In the past, our quest style articles organized barbecue in various categories from below average to excellent. Since then, we have decided to remove any category style tier. That said, barbecue joints in this article loosely ordered by increasing preference in this article. So if you want to see our very favorites, scroll to the end!
