The Quest to Explore all 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods

Duquesne Incline and Pittsburgh's Skyline

Since founding Discover the Burgh, we've made it our mission to do everything Pittsburgh has to throw at us. From eating at all the great Pittsburgh restaurants, visiting all the museums, to exploring the many public spaces and hiking trails (to name a few), we've tried to live by the mindset of if it is there, we want to check it out.

Naturally, one of our goals along these lines was to visit all 90 Pittsburgh neighborhoods and find the highlights in each of them.

While we have visited all 90 neighborhoods multiple times throughout the years, we are still working our way to finding something unique in each of them as many are primarily residential. That being said, to date we have found unique highlights in 66 neighborhoods which is nothing to scoff at.

In this guide we wanted to share one recommendation for each neighborhood we've found something awesome in so far.

Are you ready to go exploring?

Hampton Inn Green Tree Review – A Standard Hotel With a Few Surprises

Normally when we review Pittsburgh hotels we select our properties to stay in to review them for their location or unique amenities.

In the case of the Hampton Inn Greentree, we selected this one for its price as we were getting some work done on our house and needed to be away for two nights with our dog without spending a lot of money.

As many hotels do not allow pets, and those that do charge an insane pet fee on top of their price, we set our sights on the Hampton Inn Greentree to take a look at their offering as one of the most budget friendly hotels in the city- and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found.

The Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens is a nature reserve in Oakdale, PA- located right next door to Settlers Cabin Park. The park opened in early 2015 on a 460 acre plot of land once used for mining and logging, and currently has about 60 acres that was transformed back into pristine nature and open for visitors to enjoy.

This one does require a payment for entry, and those who visit will enjoy a serene hike in nature through several themed zones and unique art pieces.

Imbibe Northside – Local Beer and Contemporary Art Combine

We've been in the habit of checking out many of Pittsburgh's beer tours and beer events in Pittsburgh recently, and one of our favorites so far is also one of the newest: Imbibe Northside.

This event is the brainchild of the team over at the soon-to-open War Streets Brewery and is hosted at the Mattress Factory museum of contemporary art.

If that combo isn't enough to pique your interest, the other dozen or so breweries, wineries, and distilleries in attendance will definitely do the trick.

Royal Myanmar Review – Burmese Cuisine in West View

Royal Myanmar in West View is one of the only places we know of in the city to get traditional Burmese food. As we had never had Burmese food before eating here, we can say that this place is a great introduction to the cuisine.

The restaurant itself is a tiny hole-in-the-wall type place where service is friendly and everyone knows the regulars – it's almost like what I would imagine a Burmese diner to be like.

Two Brothers BBQ Review – Stellar Barbecue in Presto, PA

At this time it seems Two Brothers BBQ may be closed.

Pittsburgh's barbecue scene is often considered to be lacking among other similarly sized cities. We have many joints in the region serving up barbecue, but little to none of them have the fanfare and almost cult-like following like you see in other spots around the country.

That is, except for Two Brothers BBQ in Presto, PA.

The Three Rivers Arts Festival – An Annual Favorite

The Three Rivers Arts Festival is one of the most popular annual events in Pittsburgh.

This two-week long festival in June celebrates all things arts and includes dozens upon dozens of booths of art vendors, live performances and music, extended gallery hours, and so much more in downtown Pittsburgh.

While you may need to visit this one multiple times in order to truly experience it all, a visit during any day of the festival has enough to keep anyone busy.

Boyd & Blair Vodka Distillery Review – A Surprising Find

In February 2020, Boyd & Blair Vodka stopped offering their Saturday tours and tastings as mentioned in the below article. Instead, the distillery is moving towards offering ticketed cocktail classes and other events that will give guests a chance to tour the property and try their spirits. We will update this article accordingly once we take a class to share what the experience is like.

Most everyone in Pittsburgh knows about our resident whiskey distillery, Wigle Whiskey. For those who are even more into local spirits, you may know about our resident rum distillery, Maggie's Farm Rum. But did you also know that Pittsburgh is home to a vodka distillery as well?

Located just outside the city limits in Glenshaw, PA, on route 8 is Boyd & Blair, a distillery that has been gaining a reputation over the last decade as one of the finest vodka producers in the state- if not the country.

City Brew Tours Review – An Introduction to Pittsburgh’s Beer Scene

Pittsburgh's brewery scene is pretty astounding. In the past ten years we've gone from having just a handful of breweries to having well over four dozen in an hour radius with another couple dozen set to open in the next few years.

As such, tackling them all can be quite tricky unless you're able to go out for a beer every single weekend.

To help get you out to more breweries in one go, City Brew Tours launched a Pittsburgh beer tour to help introduce beer fans into Pittsburgh's growing and thriving craft beer scene.

We were invited out by City Brew Tours to check out their After Hours Brew Tour which was just the evening out we were looking for.
