A Guide to Pittsburgh Farmers Markets and Artisan Pop-Ups

When it comes to seasonal markets, Pittsburgh does them quite well. Hardly a week goes by in the spring, summer, and fall without a pop-up event- be it a weekly farmers market, monthly artist roundup, or a neighborhood yard sale.

As with everything on our site, it has been our mission to visit all of these markets over the years.

After visiting many, we realized that not all of them necessarily warrant their own article. So we decided to do things a little different for this topic and compiled a selection of all of our favorites to share the important information you need to know before you go!

Anthrocon’s Fursuit Parade and Block Party is a Ton of Fun

Out of all of the conferences that come to Pittsburgh, Anthrocon is one of the most unique and interesting.

The conference is for fur suit enthusiasts, or furries, and has been coming to Pittsburgh every year since 2006. That year, 2,489 furries descended on the city for the event, and in 2024, the conference ballooned to over 17,639 participants!

Although the convention itself is primarily designed for those interested in the community, there are many opportunities for outsides to get to meet with visitors, see their incredible fur suits up close, and welcome them to the community.

But one of our favorites is Anthrocon's fursuit parade, which involves a massive promenade around the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. So, let's talk a bit more about it in this one!

ASCEND is a new show at the Pittsburgh Playhouse at Point Park University downtown that reimagines what theater can (and we may even go as far as argue, should) be like.

If you like immersive art, impressive set pieces, and equally stunning choreography, this show is back for another year and runs on select dates through May 31st, 2026.

We got a chance to check out the show on its preview night in the 2025 season as guests of the Pittsburgh Playhouse and want to share more in this one!

Pittsburgh is often considered to have one of the largest St. Patrick's Day Parades in the country, taking place the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day (unless the holiday falls on a Saturday, of course), and it doesn't take long after the parade starts to see why that is.

This one is massive!

The Allentown Night Market Offers a Weird and Wonderful Time

When an event brands itself as “a most curious bi-annual market,” we can safely say our interest is piqued. When that event is the Allentown Night Market, typically taking place on a Saturday night in June and October, after our first visit we knew we had to visit every time.

“Most curious” is an understatement here!

So whether you're into the off-beat, macabre, or simply want to check out what is new in this fun corner of Pittsburgh, the Allentown Night Market evenings should be on your radar.

Mattress Factory’s Garden Party is a Must Attend Fundraiser

Many of our local Pittsburgh museums know how to put on a good party or gala. Not only are these events a fun way for the community to enjoy a museum in a different ambiance, they also serve a valuable purpose for the museums themselves- fundraising.

Raising funds while having a great time with a few hundred new, like-minded friends? Well, it is hard to say no to that.

The North Side's contemporary art museum, Mattress Factory, is one such museum that hosts an annual fundraiser party, and their themed Garden Party (often taking place in late spring) is an event not to miss.

We were guests of Mattress Factory to check out the 2024 Garden Party, themed MAKE/BELIEVE, and we thought we'd share a bit more about what it was like for those looking to attend the event in the future!
