We love how many festivals we have in southwest PA focusing on our regional libations.

For those who like wine and spirits and want to check out a festival with a relaxed vibe, don't overlook the Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival each July. This one brings roughly two dozen local producers to the stunning grounds of Hartwood Manor, and was quite the fun event.

We were invited to check this one out by Allegheny County Parks, and share more about what you can expect in this review!

The ticketed event offered unlimited samplings and had a broad spectrum of products, including dry wine, sweet wine, spirit samplings, ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail tastes, and more.

In a way, this one had something for everyone- whether you like fruit wine, locally grown wines made from native grapes (think sweet Concord), European grapes (such as dry wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, etc.), and all manner of spirits.

Big Spring Spirits Samples

We stayed towards the spirits side for this particular event (with a few wine tastes, of course), as we often like to avoid mixing alcohol types at festivals such as these. But we overheard many, many conversations from other guests who all remarked about enjoying one particular style over another. Some love sweet wine, some love dry, and the variety in every category was excellent- the festival truly had something for everyone on the wine and spirit front.

Throw on a fairly decent food truck lineup (roughly six trucks, including ice cream), live music, and the impressive Hartwood Mansion as a backdrop, and it came together for a great festival on a beautiful summer day.

Live Music

From our own samplings, we had a few favorites, including Big Spring Spirits rye whiskey and coffee liquor, Lucky Sign Spirits RTD canned cocktails, and, as always, Pittsburgh Winery's dry wines (which went quite well with our pizza from Aviva Brick Oven).

Get Your Tickets Early – This One Sells Out Fast

Wine Tasting at Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival

One thing that we loved about this particular festival, beyond the location and lineup, is that it felt very intimate despite being a sold-out event.

Even at capacity, the event never felt that crowded. There were some waits at booths here or there, naturally, but it was only ever a couple of people at a time where we'd be getting our sample within moments. The few larger groups that were present often traveled in a pack, which would result in a larger gathering at one tent, whereas those just one tent over would likely not have a line at all!

Wine Tasting at Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival

This was quite refreshing, as we've attended many tasting festivals that sold far too many tickets, and the crowds would result in relatively long lines. We definitely did not have that problem here, and we easily got to sample everything we wanted well before our session's timeslot ended.

However, with smaller crowds, that also means lower ticket sales, and this is one festival that will absolutely sell out well in advance (as it did in 2025 when we visited). So if your heart is set on going, we have one piece of advice- don't wait to buy your ticket. This fun wine festival, with reasonably priced admission fees, absolutely will sell out, and those who do not grab a ticket early will likely have to wait for next year.

Overall, the Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival is a fun annual event for those who like locally made wine and spirits. While not a massive, blow-out festival like others, this one makes up for it with an intimate environment, beautiful backdrop, and the ability to enjoy the products at a relaxed pace. We can't wait to check this one out again in a future year!

The Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival typcially takes places at Hartwood Acres in July. We were guests of Allegheny County Parks for this review. As always, all opinions are our own.
