Uncorked Review – Music, Wine, and More in Sharpsburg

Uncorked is a wine bar and restaurant featuring live jazz, located in the main business district of Sharpsburg. With prohibition-style cocktails, a full food menu, plentiful wine options, and live music, this intimate spot is a great addition to the neighborhood. Although the noise level on our visit made it somewhat difficult to have conversations with our table, we appreciated the cocktails, homemade pasta, and small plates.

Esquina Cantina (formerly known as Round Corner Cantina) has been a Lawrenceville institution for more than a decade, serving up tacos and other Mexican fare plus cocktails utilizing Mexican spirits and ingredients. 5 Reasons to Love Living in Mount Washington

Many Pittsburgh residents dream of living in Mount Washington. This neighborhood is one of the best spots in the city for great views of the skyline, access to tourist experiences like riding on the Inclines, and, of course, great restaurants and amenities.

We were really fortunate to live in Mount Washington as renters for several years and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Although we have since moved to the North Side, we often dream about potentially one day returning.

So in this one, we thought we'd focus on what the neighborhood is like for those considering moving there, where we share some of the reasons we love Mount Washington as a place to live, and also share some other important details to keep in mind before moving in.

Please Note: The area that most call Mount Washington typically also includes the city neighborhood of Duquesne Heights near the Duquesne Incline to the west in addition to the city neighborhood of Mount Washington. For the purpose of this article, we're calling both “Mount Washington” as the same logic applies to both neighborhoods on the hilltop.

The Maridon Museum in Butler Showcases East Asian Art

The Maridon Museum is a bit of a surprising find in Butler, as it focuses on stunning art from East Asia- particularly China and Japan (amongst others).

You may ask, “why is Butler of all places home to such a stellar collection?” and the answer is because local resident Mary Hulton Phillips began collecting Asian antiquities, all without actually traveling to Asia, and the collection became so vast that a museum was born in 2004 (a few years before her death in 2009).

Now, guests can visit the Maridon Museum to learn about Mary Hulton Phillips and see her stunning collection located just a block or so off of Main Street- for a very modest entry price as well!

One by Spork Review – A Prix Fixe Delight in Pittsburgh

One by Spork is a bold new restaurant concept in the former Spork space at the border between Garfield, Friendship, and Bloomfield. The dining experience consists of a roughly 10-course tasting menu with drink pairings (and many additional welcome bites) where diners are seated around a circular chef's counter.

We visited One by Spork shortly after opening and were intrigued by the inventive techniques and ingredients being used in both the food and drinks here. While some of the courses were more cohesive than others, we think One by Spork is ambitious and exciting, and hope that it kindles more creativity in the Pittsburgh restaurant scene.
