Pittsburgh International Airport is located approximately 20 miles west of downtown Pittsburgh off of I-376. Although the commute to the airport in and out of downtown Pittsburgh is a breeze most of the time (outside of rush hour traffic, at least), there are some cases where you would want to consider a stay at one of the many Pittsburgh airport hotels nearby.

For residents, this would be when you have an extremely early flight and would want the convenience of some extra sleep before your journey. For visitors, this would be when you're coming in for business and do not necessarily need to (or want to) head into the city for an otherwise brief stay.

With over a dozen hotels near Pittsburgh airport to choose from, you have numerous options. To help with your selection, we wanted to highlight five hotels with unique amenities that we think are well worth considering!

Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh Airport

Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh Airport

The Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh Airport is the only airport hotel connected to the Pittsburgh international airport, so if you want to get to your gate as fast as possible, this one is for you. We went from our alarm going off at 4:45am to being at our gate in just under 30 minutes, including a stop for breakfast takeaway in the airport. The rooms at the Hyatt are basic and the bed is fairly uncomfortable if we're being honest, but the convenience cannot be beat for the quick access to the airport. It is worth noting that this hotel has many unique amenities including a decent sized pool, a jacuzzi, two saunas, and a modest-sized gym- so arriving early has some perks other than the proximity!

Things to consider: Last minute discounts are readily available on 3rd party sites, and the hotel does not have a separate parking area from the airport lot. So if you have your own car, be prepared to pay for short-term or long-term parking rates.

Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh Airport

If you are looking to stay close to the airport but don't mind a bit of a drive before your flight, the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh Airport is for you. This hotel is located on the back side of the airport (along I-376 Business corridor) and offers decently sized rooms, a wonderful ambiance, and a quick access to the hotel via the complimentary shuttle.

Things to consider: The hotel is a bit further from the airport due to it being behind the property; however, it is still fairly close.

Pittsburgh Airport Marriott

Pittsburgh Airport Marriott

The Pittsburgh Airport Marriott is a newly renovated hotel located just a few miles from Pittsburgh's international airport with a superb restaurant and comfortable rooms (in fact, next to the airport Hyatt, this is the second closest from our estimates). This makes the hotel a great option for those heading out as well as those coming to do business in the Robinson Township area which is just a few miles away on the highway. The hotel offers a Park & Fly option and airport shuttle that will allow you to leave your car in their lot during a stay (for an additional charge), and parking is complimentary for those staying overnight (perfect for travelers who want to avoid the rather insane parking charges at downtown hotels). If you are willing to add on a few extra minutes for the shuttle to get to the airport, this one is a great option all around.

Things to consider: Parking is complimentary during stays; however, the Park and Fly feature is extra.

Marriott Pittsburgh Airport

La Quinta Inn Pittsburgh Airport

Generally speaking, when you think of Pittsburgh airport hotels, your first thought is that they are going to be a bit overpriced because of their proximity to the airport. One of the hotels with the best prices is the La Quinta Inn located along the back side of the airport on I-376 Business. This hotel has rates which are incredibly reasonable at times, and offers Park & Fly options. Throw in a shuttle service (something not all hotels near Pittsburgh airport offer), and you have a great option for the bare-bones traveler.

Things to consider: The rooms at this hotel offer fairly basic amenities and is priced accordingly.

• In need of a room? Check out hotel and apartment prices.
• Don't overlook picking up a rental car or day tours as well!

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Pittsburgh Airport /Robinson

One of the problems with Pittsburgh airport hotels is that as you get closer and closer to the city, most do not offer an airport shuttle. This boundary is typically around Robinson Township, located just a few miles to the east of the airport where many hotels advertise themselves as being airport properties but not all offer a traditional shuttle like you'd expect. TownePlace Suites by Marriott is one hotel in Robinson Township that does offer an airport shuttle, and offers many amenities including a full studio units with full dinette. As such, this hotel is perfect for the road warrior who wants some of the little comforts of home when they travel.

Things to consider: This hotel is the furthest from the airport out of all the properties on this list and is roughly 10 minutes away by car; however, this hotel also has the best access to restaurants in Robinson Township.

Raccoon Creek State Park

If you do not have enough time to make it in to the city during your visit (or have some time before heading to your airport hotel for an early morning flight), why not check out the Montour Trail, Settlers Cabin Park, or, if you can stand a bit longer of a drive, Raccoon Creek State Park nearby.
