When it comes to downtown Pittsburgh hotels, we have quite a few with each having their own unique features.

We didn't know much about the Drury Plaza Hotel, located just a few blocks from the convention center, but when we were invited out for a review we were excited all the same.

As we quickly found out, this one has comfortable rooms and some pretty awesome on-site perks!

Modern Rooms with Pittsburgh Designs

Living Area in Drury Plaza Pittsburgh Suite

The first thing you'll notice about the rooms at the Drury Plaza Downtown Pittsburgh is that they have modern designs and are adorned with Pittsburgh photography on most of the walls.

What we liked about this was not just the fact that the skylines and bridges were present, but also more nuanced scenes like the city flag or Pittsburgh Christmas markets were also framed in our room as well.

The bed in our room was comfortable and was what we would consider being a mid-range bed as far as hotels are concerned. Soft and perfect for a good night's rest, but not of the higher-end memory foam that some luxury hotels have provided.

All-in-all, the night's rest was quite good all the same. Throw in little street noise due to being on the top floor (10th), and we walked away quite happy.

Some Great Perks at Drury Plaza Pittsburgh

Patio at Drury Plaza Pittsburgh

While we could get by just talking about how comfortable the room was, we really should say that the highlights of the Drury Plaza are the side perks that come with a stay.

They have conventional amenities like free wifi and breakfast, but the hotel goes beyond this with having a 5:30 Kickback® including complimentary food and drink coupons (first drink free, second and third drink at $0.75 each in 2019). The lobby also features free popcorn and soda all day as well.

But going beyond these, the hotel is home to a rather nice swimming pool and jacuzzi, a modern fitness center, and an outdoor patio all on the 8th floor (which, in our experience, has one of the best patio views of downtown for a hotel).

For those who enjoy local history, the hotel's main floors retain many of the historical elements from the Federal Reserve that used to call the building home- including a beautiful Pittsburgh mural on the restaurant wall (which was the reserve's original lobby) and the bank vault doors in the basement (now housing meeting rooms).

Overall, the hotel does a wonderful job providing a modern hotel experience while retaining some of the historical aspects of the Federal Reserve on the main floors, and is something you don't see all too often in hotels.

Tips for Getting the Best Room at Drury Plaza Pittsburgh

View from Room 2012

As with most downtown Pittsburgh hotels, you are going to be in the heart of the city which can have some street noise.

While the Drury Plaza is located just a few blocks away from some busier streets, and the rooms are rather quiet in their own right, we would recommend trying to get a room on the 9th or 10th floor to help with any potential noise concerns.

If a decent city view is important for you, going after higher floor rooms ending in 12 (suites) and 10 (standard rooms) would give a view of Liberty Avenue with partial views of PNC Park and the convention center as seen in this article. This is very similar to the view on the 8th floor patio; however, so you may not find it necessary. (Other rooms will have views of some downtown buildings, but may be a bit more limited in what you can see.)

Likewise, the pool, patio, and fitness center are all found on the 8th floor, so some guests may want to stay on that floor for accessibility while others may want to avoid as it may have higher foot traffic than other floors. During our enjoyment of this floor, it is worth noting that we were the only guests, however.

When it comes down to it, we really had a comfortable stay at the Drury Plaza Pittsburgh, and consider it one of the best hotels we've enjoyed downtown to date!
