We've been fans of Pittsburgh Sandwich Society for many years, from their early food truck days to their permanent kitchen menu at Strange Roots in Millvale.
When we heard they were leaving the brewery in June 2026, we were at first quite sad about the news. But this one comes with a silver lining, as the crew behind the stellar food was not only bringing their mobile food truck back (hooray!) but also taking over the former Crazy Cones spot in Millvale for a new custard and grill concept- Winston's Good Eats and Frozen Treats!
Naturally, we had to go check this one out shortly after it opened, and it was everything we hoped it would be.

Winston's Offers Stellar Custard and Affordable Grilled Foods

Upon arriving at Winston's we were pleased to see that the crew behind Pittsburgh Sandwich Society kept much of the space the same as the former ice cream spot. It is a small business with walk-up windows, limited outdoor picnic seating, and an especially focused menu of custard, burgers, hot dogs, and a few special treats for dogs for good measure.
We started out our visit a bit in reverse order- custard first and savory food to go in order to enjoy them with a brew at Grist House, a short drive away. (You can take the food truck out of the brewery, but, hey, burgers and beer are still a great combo!)
Although this one offers many add-ons to their custards, including cherry dip, which we'll get on a future visit, we started our first visit off with a standard twist of vanilla and chocolate.
One of the things we love about custard is the texture. It is thick, decadent, and incredibly creamy, and Winston's hits it perfectly here. Although they are limited in flavors, we'll take that for a near-perfect execution- good custard is all we need, truly.

On the grill side of the menu, Winston's had a spread of build-your-own hot dogs, quarter-pounder burgers, a grilled chicken sandwich, and veggie burger (using Pittsburgh Sandwich Society's popular veggie patty recipe) during our visit in their soft open- all for a rather reasonable price point.
We, naturally, went for an order of burgers and a hot dog to try the spread of the menu
These are short order delights through and through, with a diner-style grilled burger and hot dogs. But, truly, it was the toppings that made this one as you could tell that many of the toppings go the extra mile from conventional hot dog and mustard, which we appreciate.
That said, when ordering, be sure to plan out what toppings you want in advance. When we ordered our hot dog, for example, we were asked if we wanted everything on it, and after saying yes, we realized that there was a bit of confusion and we got all the standard toppings and all the premium toppings at an additional charge.
Well, I did say everything, I suppose.
But somehow, a hot dog with all the relishes, spreads, mustards, ketchups, chili, bacon, and cheese not only worked, but worked beautifully. So much so that the hot dog ended up being our favorite bite of the entire meal, custard excluded, of course. (Making it a rare day when we say order the hot dog!)
Would I order everything on the hot dog again? Honestly, perhaps. But next time I would be a bit more strategic with my topping choices- perhaps chili and cheese with onions and a sauce or two would work just fine to help keep this one from overflowing!
Overall, Winston's Grilled Eats & Frozen Treats is taking a fresh look at the walk-up ice cream shop and grill combo, and with the crew behind Pittsburgh Sandwich Society running it, we can see this one standing above the competition with reasonably priced, delicious eats.
Now if you'll excuse us, it is time to go back for more custard (and probably another hot dog).
Winston's Grilled Eats & Frozen Treats is located at 624 North Avenue in Millvale.
