If you fancy a slice of pizza, odds are good you are familiar with Badamo’s in Dormont and the North Side. Their two pizza shops have been serving up some of the best slices and pies in all of Pittsburgh for years and have been a go-to of ours as well.
In 2026, Badamo’s opened a new store immediately next to their Dormont location, Badamo Family Grocery and Sandwich Shop, and is a welcomed addition for Italian goods, prepared foods, and scratch-made sandwiches.

Badamo’s Expands With an Italian Grocery Store & Sandwich Shop

The grocery store element of Badamo Family Grocery is everything we’d want from a small, neighborhood Italian grocer. Namely a wealth of Italian products ranging from dried pastas and tomato sauce to high-end olive oils, Sicilian sea salt, beverages, and more.
But the grocery side of the menu goes beyond just that and also has many prepared foods like house made focaccia and side dishes, meaning you can really walk away with a nice little shopping haul here of foods to enjoy now and others for a homecooked meal later.
On the sandwich side of the menu, Badamo Family Grocery has a large selection of subs that range from classic Italian deli meat selections to meatball subs, tuna salad sandwiches, and more.

During our first visit, I was able to sample two, The Rocco (with prosciutto cotto, hot sopressata, provolone, and a house made pepper condiment) as well as The Heartbeat (a meatball sub with mozzarella, red sauce, pecorino, and basil oil).
Both of the hoagies were fairly generous in size and loaded up with their respective deli meats or meatballs. The Rocco hit some rather nice notes with the homemade condiment that I quite enjoyed, although I probably could’ve used a bit more of the sopressata on my sandwich overall. The meatball, on the other hand, was perfect- three massive meatballs topped with a generous amount of red sauce made for an absolutely beautiful bite all around.
Given that meatball sandwiches aren’t normally in my top five of choices when going out to a sandwich shop, this speaks volumes to the quality of this particular sandwich- it is just that good.
I should note that at the time of our visit, many of the other deli meat sandwiches had ingredients like mortadella that we had to skip due to an allergy. Our friend Alex Eats Too Much ordered some of these and they looked quite incredible- so don’t skip over some of the mortadella sandwiches as well!
But, for us, we’ve been told to give the Cousin Samantha a try if it is available next, which features Calabrian tuna salad with cherry tomatoes, provolone, and red wine vinegar as we hear that one is becoming quite the fan favorite as well. (It was out of stock on our visit, next time!).

Before visiting Badamo Family Grocery, it is worth noting that this particular store does not have dine-in seating; however, their pizza shop next door has a decent amount of seats and did not mind that we brought our sandwiches over to enjoy. Then we made a return trip back to the grocery to pick up some pantry items, plus some killer house made focaccia, to go.
A perfect one-two punch in Dormont if there ever was one. Now we just all need to ask really nicely to get a Badamo Family Grocery in the North Side by their second slice shop (and, yes, we’ll be the first to admit this ask is a little self-serving since we live near that one!).
Whether you head down to Badamo Family Grocery to pick up some Italian pantry items, a sub, or even a slice at their staple pizza shop next door (or a bit of everything), its hard not to love this one.
Badamo Family Grocery & Sandwich Shop is located at 1511 Potomac Avenue in Dormont.
