There is no shortage of great pinball arcades in Pittsburgh, and for those who like taking a trip through history, a visit to Pinball Perfection in West View is a must.

This attraction, like others in the area, offers a wealth of machines set to free play mode for an hourly entry fee. But what makes Pinball Perfection a bit different from the rest is that their collection is as much a museum experience as it is a place to play.

The vintage machine collection here is serious!

After paying my entry fee for an hour of play, I was given a tour of the facility by a staff member, showing off machines of different eras, companies, and types. One element of this I liked was that every guest was asked if they had a favorite type of pinball to play (be it company, style, etc.), and these were pointed out alongside harder, easier, and fun machines- plus a handful that were out for maintenance.

Once this brief tour was over, I hit the games and started working through the machines by era, and really getting an excellent feel for all forms of vintage pinball with every machine set to free play mode.

Pinball Perfection

I've played a lot of pinball at facilities all over the region, and the collection of historic machines here is among the most impressive, not just for the sheer number, but the styles, too. After playing around many of the machines, you can really see the evolution of pinball first-hand, with changes to things like flipper size, evolution of in-machine bonus features and games, and so much more.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not the most familiar with pinball history, but after playing around the collection, I can see why this is a popular spot for those who are more into the games- the collection is quite impressive!

Pinball Perfection

Although Pinball Perfection features a collection of vintage machines, we'd be remiss if we did not point out that they had some modern machines as well, particularly around themes like Star Trek and Star Wars. In these rows, you can try out some of the first machines of their kind with the style and work your way up to modern machines that have holograms and even more in-machine mini games worth playing.

So after you get your fill of retro machines, don't overlook a stop at some of these to see how modern machines have really changed the game in recent years.

Pinball Perfection

Likewise, it is worth noting that it did not appear that Pinball Perfection had air conditioning during my visit, so it can be quite warm in the summer months. During my July visit, for example, many of the machines were kept off until a guest wanted to play, and then a row would be turned on by request. This did not necessarily impact my experience at all and I still got my fill of machines to play, but is worth noting for those who may be visiting on a warm day.

Finally, as this spot is a museum as much as it is an attraction to experience the games, you may come across several that are either offline for maintenance or perhaps reset partway through. Games of this level do need a great deal of repair work, after all. That said, we were also requested to play through all balls when trying a machine to help not wear out the motors, and given the impressive history of the machines, I happily obliged.

Pinball Perfection

Overall, Pinball Perfection is a pinball lover's dream, particularly if you are fond of older machines you may not get to play all too often. The historic collection here is truly nothing short of impressive, and I can't wait to go back for more soon!

Pinball Perfection is located at 231 Perry Highway in West View.
