Saint Anthony Chapel in Troy Hill is one of the most interesting houses of worship in the city, and somewhat of a pilgrimage spot for the faithful.
Why is that? It is thought to be home to over 5,000 Catholic relics, and is considered to have the most in one location outside of the Vatican.
Throw on beautiful architecture, life-sized Stations of the Cross, and a modest museum, and you have a number of excellent reasons to visit this beautiful chapel in Troy Hill!

Relics and Stations of the Cross at Saint Anthony Chapel
When exploring Saint Anthony Chapel, it is hard to avoid the relics. They are, quite literally, everywhere.
Although you won't be able to see all 5,000, there are hundreds upon hundreds out of display, and many have been authenticated by a Bishop as well. From pieces of the True Cross to relics from apostles, martyrs, and saints (like Saint Mauritius and Saint George), there really is a lot to see here.
For those who want to learn more about the relics, on-site docents offer thorough tours to share information with guests. As many relics don't have signage, this is an excellent option for those who want to learn more about specific pieces and their historical significance (or to simply not miss anything you may otherwise overlook).
Outside of the relics, Saint Anthony Chapel has a life-sized Stations of the Cross, carved from wood, and is quite powerful to see up close. In fact, the artwork in the chapel itself is stunning enough to visit on its own, and that's truly saying something- this is one all-around beautiful spot!
Don't Miss the Museum Across the Street
After visiting the chapel, be sure to pop over to the building across the street, which has a gift shop and modest museum dedicated to the museum's history on the second floor.
This two-room exhibit has a mix of displays, and shares the founding of the church by Father Mollinger, his collecting of relics when he lived and traveled in Europe, and shared about how Father Mollinger helped cure diseases of the faithful as well.
Along side, the museum features more relics on display (many that have not been authenticated can be found in the museum, whereas authenticated pieces are in the chapel), as well as a collection of crutches and eyeglasses donated from those who were said to be cured!
So if you have a bit of time during your visit and the museum is open, be sure to stop by for a quick look!
Overall, Saint Anthony Chapel is one of the most unique places of worship in Pittsburgh. From the relics and life sized stations of the cross, to the all around beautiful architecture, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy here.
