When a friend of ours told us to go try out Quik-It Chicken, a chicken restaurant located in the same building as a gas station in the North Side, we thought he was kidding. Gas station food is generally something we wouldn't consider good dining in any capacity. But knowing this friend, and his off-the-wall recommendations actually being amazing most of the time, we went for it and do not regret the decision in the slightest.
Delicious Fast Food Chicken in an Odd Location
Pulling up to Quik-It Chicken gives you reason to pause. You're in a gas station parking lot, likely parking at a pump to go inside, and other than a small chicken sign outside you really have no idea what to expect. As you open the door you hear a recorded voice saying “Eat Quik-It Chicken” over and over, like something out of a television show, and the interior can only be described as the same as well.
You know this is going to be delicious.
I do not want any sarcasm to be taken from this statement, because Quik-It Chicken really is a good restaurant for chicken, ribs, and sides delivered out the door with lightning speed. The presentation and its location only add to its character as the food couldn't be further from anything you'd expect from a business sharing the same building as a gas station.
When it comes down to it, the best comparison we can give to truly describe Quik-It Chicken is that it is the local counterpart to certain national fast food chicken joints but with better ingredients, tastier rubs and sauces, and friendlier workers.
At around $10 per meal you won't be breaking the bank, and the ample sides and dessert options that are also included will ensure all but the hungriest individuals will have at least one meal of leftovers.
Quik-It Chicken won't be winning any awards any time soon for ambiance or gourmet meals, but if you are looking for fried chicken, ribs, or similar foods quickly that you know will be delicious, you have to look no further than here.
Just be sure to try the baked beans and sweet potato pie, if available, and thank us later.
Quik-It Chicken is located in the Valero gas station at 820 Pennsylvania Avenue in the North Side.
