We love sharing the best events with our readers, and every day Discover the Burgh receives thousands of visitors looking for the best things to see, do, eat, and experience in the region.

In 2023, we launched an event calendar to feature the best events going on in the city to help promote experiences beyond those that we have personally reviewed since founding this site. So if you want to get the word out about an upcoming event, this feature is for you.

Several formats of our event calendar can be found throughout our site, including on our sidebar (desktop/tablet view), post-content footer (all views), in a dedicated Pittsburgh event calendar page, and in the events sections of our ultimate Pittsburgh and things to do in Pittsburgh guides. As such, our calendar is displayed prominently to tens of thousands of readers of Discover the Burgh every month. All sponsored event shares will also include a “Featured” label for added exposure as well!

We have a few requirements for hosting events in our calendar. All event submissions are reviewed before acceptance to ensure these terms are followed:

  • Events must fall into the category of “things to do in Pittsburgh” and could include a limited-time event at a museum, live music at a bar, an opening or sale at a store, a restaurant opening, new food/drink menu release, meet and greets, and more.
  • Hosted events must have a 3rd party destination link for readers to follow to read more. This could be as simple as a direct link to a Facebook post or a static page on a website. Our calendar is designed to get readers to your event page over listing every pertinent event detail.
  • Information that is shared on our calendar listing includes event name, dates/times, outbound link, location (neighborhood or borough only), and a photo.
  • All events must take place within approximately 90 minutes of downtown Pittsburgh by car. Events in Ohio and West Virginia can be included if they are within this radius. Events further away will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Online-only events are not accepted without a focused Pittsburgh theme (e.g. a live stream of a Pittsburgh performance).
  • We do not host events around the topics of politics, religion, job fairs/employment, self-help, gambling, and anything explicit/illegal to name a few. 21+ is fine, X rated is not.
  • We reserve the right to refuse any event listing for any reason.
  • It is recommended to submit events at least 30 days before the start date to maximize views; however, we do not have a limit on how far in advance an event can be hosted. Events submitted with less than 72 hours before the event start time may be declined due to review/payment timelines.
  • Dedicated shares of an event on Discover the Burgh's social media channels can be provided at an additional charge. Additional advertising opportunities are listed at the end of this article.

Currently, we do not offer complimentary hosting on our calendar for events we have not personally attended. We charge an insertion fee to cover our time and marketing. Our pricing is as follows:

  • One Event: $50 per listing for one (1) day
  • Recurring Days of the Same Event: $10/day
  • Three Unique Events: $100
  • Ten Unique Events: $250

Custom quotes can be provided to include additional marketing. Package event sales (3, 10, etc.) do not need to be hosted at the time of purchase and can be held as credit for a future event share within one year.

Examples: A one-day event featured in our calendar will be invoiced at $50. A three-day event running from Friday to Sunday, on the same topic and over three consecutive days, will be invoiced at $70. A recurring event featured three Wednesdays in a row with the same listed information (e.g. live music on Wednesdays) will also be charged $70. Three unique events over three separate weeks (e.g. live music on week one, stand up comedy on week two, etc.) will be invoiced at $100.

Discover the Burgh offers numerous event advertising opportunities beyond features in our event calendar, these include, but are not limited to:

  • Feature in Monthly Event Roundups – Priority placement in our monthly event posts (max one sponsored event per month)
  • Newsletter Sponsorship – Featured slot within our weekly newsletter (max one placement per week)
  • Social Media Shares – Event shares on our Facebook page, Facebook group, and Instagram stories
  • Dedicated Event Reviews (Annual/Recurring Events Only) – A custom article on Discover the Burgh in review format after attending an event
