When it comes to drinking and dining north of Pittsburgh, Harmony and Zelienople are standing out with a wealth of options. These unassuming boroughs have become a bit of a hub in recent years for new breweries, restaurants, cafes, and more- with spots opening up all the time.

Los Mayas opened up in Harmony to fill the void of delicious Mexican cuisine and rocks it with their robust menu that will have you going back again and again just to get through it all.

Lots to Offer at Los Mayas – So Visit Often

Choriqueso at Los Mayas

I started the meal off with an order of choriqueso which was prepared tableside with onion, tomatillo salsa, chorizo, and a monster amount of cheese all mixed together in a sizzling hot plate that kept the cheese bubbling for a good part of our meal.

Part of the allure of this one was simply the presentation- we're used to tableside guacamole being made but tableside cheese feels like a new level that should be the norm. But the flavor of this one didn't disappoint. It was cheesy, meaty, and had a small amount of heat too from the added salsa. Suffice it to say, as long as this one is on the menu we'd consider it a staple appetizer despite chips and salsa coming along with the meal anyway.

Street Tacos at Los Mayas Harmony

While Los Mayas has an incredibly large menu full of many Mexican staples, on my first visit I had to go for the street tacos. In being able to mix-and-match, I was able to try four tacos with chicken, pastor, carnitas, and chorizo- each topped with cilantro and onion (just as it should be) with hot sauce, guacamole, and lime on the side.

This one checks a lot of boxes for us when it comes to street tacos. They are served in double corn shells, the proportions are generous, and four tacos were more than plenty to leave me stuffed when it was all said and done. In keeping with the typical toppings of onion and cilantro, the restaurant did a great job allowing the meat to be the star flavor and they sure did shine here (go for the chorizo for sure).

Really, when it comes down to it, the real star of Los Mayas in Harmony is simply how robust their menu is of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and a whole lot more. This is good for visitors as you can go back time and time again while only just starting to make a dent in their offering, but for our review, well, we are inherently limited by how much we can feast in a single sitting.

To put it bluntly, only getting the tacos here is barely scratching the surface. So we'll just have to go back and get more!

Los Mayas is located at 100 Perry Highway Suite 105 in Harmony, PA. I was a guest of this restaurant courtesy of Butler County Tourism. As always, all opinions are my own.
