Pittsburgh's regional grocery store scene leaves a lot to be desired, we have to admit.
Thankfully, we have a lot of international grocery stores in the region that fill in the gap and provide unique food options that you may not get at a conventional grocer (with many at prices at, or better than, our local chains!).
So in this one, we thought we'd take a look at ten international grocers that have some of our favorite selections in the city. Whether you're looking for Asian, Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Indian, or Eastern European, we've got you covered in this one!
Many More Asian Market – Strip District – Asian
The Strip District is home to a number of excellent Asian grocery stores, but we have become regulars at expanded Many More Asian Market as it is a one-stop shop for just about every Asian product we are looking for
An excellent fruit and produce section? Yep. Large fresh seafood plus various meats? You know it. Sauces, cooking spices, rice, noodles, and more? Absolutely. This one even has a great baked good section as well as a hot food bar with some excellent meals to enjoy on-site or to go as well.
Naturally, this one has become one of those stores where we go in for a couple of items and walk out with an entire cart full, because we just want one of everything here.
Many More Asian Market is located at 2767 Liberty Ave in the Strip District. Many more has two parking lots for guests, one on Liberty Avenue and a larger lot on Penn Avenue. Note that the Penn Avenue parking has tight spacing.
Enson Market – East End – Asian
If you live near the East End and are looking for another Asian grocery store option, Enson Market is another massive store that has a wonderful spread of options from many countries.
Going beyond the familiar grocery products (which includes a number of brands we're not used to seeing locally), Enson Market features a great ice cream station, prepared Korean banchan from Yega Kimchi, and even a location of the popular Vietnamese cafe and restaurant, Ineffable Ca Phe, on site as well!
Enson Market is located at 7511 Thomas Blvd in Rockwell Park in the East End.
Sambok – Strip District – Korean
Does your Asian grocery needs trend to Korean fare? Sambok in the Strip District is a specialty Korean grocery store not to miss!
From prepared banchan to Korean staples like gochujang, nuruk for makgeolli, and so much more, what this store lacks in size it makes up for in its curated selection of Korean specialties. Don't overlook their street food stall out front as well, as their mung bean pancakes are a wonderful snack!
Sambok is located at 1735 Penn Ave in the Strip District.
Pennsylvania Macaroni Company – Strip District – Italian
Most Pittsburghers know that the Strip District is home to many specialty grocery stores, and one of the most beloved is none other than the Italian grocer, Pennsylvania Macaroni Company (or Penn Mac for short).
This Italian specialty store has an impressive selection of dried pasta, flours, sauces, and so much more. Their deli section features one of the most impressive cheese walls in the region and stellar olive selections. Do not overlook their bulk olive oil selections as well, which are reasonably priced and of excellent quality too- we always leave with a bottle when visiting!
Pennsylvania Macaroni Company is located at 2010 Penn Ave in the Strip District. Penn Mac has a small parking area for customers behind the store; however, note that spots are often hard to come by.
Stamoolis Brothers Co. – Strip District – Greek
For those who are looking for something just a bit different, a stop in Stamoolis Brothers Co. located just next to Penn Mac is also a must when visiting the Strip District. This one specializes in Greek, Italian, and Middle Eastern delights, and has a diverse selection of products ranging from Greek cheeses to figs (in the fall season, of course) and everything in between.
Between these two grocers, you really have a great shopping duo when in the Strip District for a lot of amazing European ingredients!
Stamoolis Brothers is located at 2020 Penn Ave in the Strip District.

Patel Brothers – Monroeville – Indian
Pittsburgh is home to several Indian grocery stores; however, one of our favorites is the massive Patel Brothers in Monroeville. Much like Many More Asian Market and Enson Market, above, Patel Brothers is home to just about everything we could ever want when it comes to Indian cooking.
A loaded produce section with great specialty produce and fruits? Yep. A bakery section with homemade naan and roti (plus some epic samosas)? We load up on these every time. The grocery store also has an impressive selections of spices, rice, lentils, and so much more and is also the kind of place where you may visit for just a few ingredients and easily leave with a full cart. (We are suckers for their tropical fruit juice selection in particular!)
Patel Brothers is located at 312 Mall Plaza Blvd in Monroeville.
- Note: If you're making the trip out to Monroeville, be sure to stop at Tienda Mexicana el Pastorcito for some great Mexican shopping, too!
Reyna Foods – Strip District – Mexican
The region is also fortunate to be home to several amazing Mexican grocery stores, which may be among the most represented countries in the area as far as shopping is concerned.
Reyna Foods in the Strip District is a specialty Mexican store that we have been visiting for many years thanks to their wide selection of foods, homemade tortillas (we always have some in our freezer), massive bulk chile selection, and periodic taco menu available as well.
Reyna Foods is located at 2023 Penn Ave in the Strip District.
Las Palma IGA – Beechview – Mexican
For those who want a little larger store when it comes to shopping for Mexican fare, a trip to the Las Palmas IGA in Beechview is a must. Yes, a Mexican IGA in the South Hills.
This store is yet another on our list that has just about everything you could want, from produce to meats, rice to beans, and a massive amount of excellent spices to name a few. But as an added perk, this location is home to one of our favorite street taco carts in the area, so is the kind of place that you may go for groceries and leave with a plate of delicious tacos to go along with it.
Las Palmas IGA is located at 1616 Broadway Avenue in Beechview. Las Palmas has several locations around the region as well- we're just partial to this location.
Jmart International Market – Dormont – Eastern Europe
The Pittsburgh region is home to grocery stores from other countries beyond Mexican, Italy, and those in East Asia, and Jmart International Market in Dormont serves up an excellent selection of products from Eastern Europe and Western Asia from countries like Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia to name a few.
From specialty cheeses to olives, pickles, rice and grains, to snacks, Jmart has an assortment of products that you really just don't see in many stores in the area and is the perfect stop for those needing an Eastern European fix!
Jmart International Market is located at 1435 Potomac Ave in Dormont.
Salem's Market – Strip District – Middle Eastern
We make our way back to the Strip District for our final specialty grocer in this list- Salem's Market. This specialty Middle Eastern grocer and halal butcher offers many excellent Middle Eastern ingredients at reasonable prices. From Middle Eastern spices to rice, produce, and unique meats, you can really stock up here for an impressive feast.
If you're hungry, be sure to stop by their restaurant next door, which offers an impressive menu at reasonable prices, including our favorite chicken shawarma wrap in the city!
Salem's Market is located at 2923 Penn Avenue in the Strip District. Salem's has a small parking lot for customers.
Do you have a favorite international grocery store in Pittsburgh? Comment to share!
Makkah One Market in Carnegie is a halal market my Afghani friends in Highland Park visit regularly, particularly for the butcher products.
Their website is very humble, the images from the Google link better illustrate the selection.

Going to have to check them out!
What, no Euro Mart on Saw Mill Run Blvd? Just before Brownsville Road and the GBU building. Sloppy on your parts
Generally speaking, “So in this one, we thought we’d take a look at ten international grocers that have some of our favorite selections in the city” means we are looking at 10 that we like. So, no, it’s not.
