We always welcome more international dining in Pittsburgh, and it is always an exciting day when we hear about a new Caribbean restaurant opening in the region in particular.

So when we heard about the restaurant, Curry Mouth, opening up and focusing on cuisine from Trinidad, we were in. For those who like flavorful dishes that pack the spice without being overtly hot, this one has a lot to love.

Go For a Combo Sampler at Curry Mouth

Curry Mouth Platter

Curry Mouth is about as fast casual as they come. When you enter, you have a walk-up counter with many pre-made items in prepared dishes, and a modest menu with a mix of doubles with channa, chicken or vegetarian stews, chicken and rice, dhalpuri roti, and pholourie (fried dough balls) to name a few.

Upon first glance at the menu, I knew I had a problem as I wanted, quite literally, everything, and knew my eyes were bigger than my appetite.

Thankfully, Curry Mouth has several combo platters to choose from which provide a healthy mix of many of the menu options. The Curry Mouth Sampler came with curry or stew chicken plus roti, doubles, and pholourie (making it a good combo for one person), The All Inclusive Sampler came with both chicken dishes plus chickpeas and potatoes, and curry mango (great for a decently sized lunch for two people), while the TRINI Sampler throws on all that plus macaroni pie, red bean, and potato salad sides (making a full meal working around almost all of the menu).

We fell into the middle platter and went with the All Inclusive Sampler and found it to be the right amount of us for a decent, but not overpowering, lunch. So let's break down what all we got!

One of our favorite Trinidadian foods we've had previously is doubles- a fried dough tortilla topped with channa, garnishes, and flavorful sauces. Yes, it feels a bit like a Caribbean taco, and when you taste the seasonings, you can really see why it is one of those dishes we order every time. While we couldn't change the toppings or sauces here, the spices were prominent without bringing too much heat, and is the kind of order we could have three of and call it a meal on its own (and given that they are quite reasonably price a la carte, you could do just that if you were so inclined).

Chicken at Curry Mouth

The massive pieces of roti were both thin and had a beautiful texture (while being warm, too!) and made for a great vehicle dipped into the two chicken dishes which were served side-by-side in the same to go vessel. Both of the chicken dishes had quite the succulent fall-apart texture, with the main difference being the flavors, with the stew being a bit on the richer side whereas the curry side brought a wealth of spices without too much noticeable heat- you're really getting the flavor here!

One new-to-us dish we got to try with this sampler were Pholourie, or deep fried dough balls with what we surmised was likely a tamarind-based dipping sauce. The dough balls were big enough to be enjoyed in a couple of bites, and were offset nicely with the tangy dipping sauce that we, admittedly, wanted to pour on everything. Next time we'd buy extra of this one as this was quite small.

Finally, the dish also came with small amounts of extra chickpeas with potato and a mango chutney to add some extra flavor to any food pairing you like. We admit we just ate these straight with the roti, but you really could choose-your-own-adventure here if you wanted to add it on top of the chicken dishes, on the double, or more- it'd all work well!

All told, Curry Mouth hits the right line for fast casual dining with high quality, flavorful foods. Our to-go order was prepared in just a few moments, and scratched an itch for some stellar Caribbean flavors that we wish we had more of in the city. Throw on that the price point for this particular sampler was quite reasonable ($22 plus tax and tip as of our visit in 2025), which made for quite the cheap lunch for two as well.

Our only regret is we don't live closer to this one, as if I still worked out in Moon Township I would be a regular at this one several times a month for lunch- it is just that good.

Curry Mouth is located at 1136 Thorn Run Road, Suite E, in Moon Township.
