One of my favorite times of year is my birthday.
This is not because I love turning another year older, but rather is because Angie and I were born only a few days apart (in the same year), also started dating within the same week, and have many reasons to celebrate as a result.
In Pittsburgh we've been fortunate to find many local businesses that offer birthday clubs that help make our celebrations even more special with many discounts and birthday freebies to keep the party going.
Now, there are a lot of boring chain restaurants with birthday specials and many other national brands out there that you see on every other birthday freebie list, but we don't care about those. We're talking about the specials from local businesses that make Pittsburgh the great city it is!
The best part? We found a lot of them!
Note: Birthday promotions can and do change regularly and we are often not made aware of them until our own birthdays arrive.
Free Entree at the Big Burrito Restaurant Group
Who doesn't love the Big Burrito restaurant group? With restaurants including Casbah, Eleven, Umi, Alta Via, Soba, and our personal favorite, Kaya, they truly have something for everyone.
For subscribers to their mailing list, you are rewarded with a free entree up to $30 in value at any restaurant (excluding Umi and Saturday service). This coupon is typically good for the period of one week before and after your birthday, giving a fair bit of time to schedule a visit for a great meal!
Free Pastry at Mediterra Cafe
Mediterra Cafe gives members signed up for their mailing list a free pastry good for up to about a month after their birthday! We believe this one gets delivered to your inbox if you sign up for emails / email receipts after purchasing at the store.
Free Burrito at Mad Mex
As if the Big Burrito coupon wasn't enough, their Mexican chain Mad Mex offers a separate mailing list which gives you a free burrito for your birthday too (also valid plus or minus one week from your birthday).
$10 off a Bottle from Wigle Whiskey
Pittsburgh's favorite local distillery, Wigle Whiskey, offers a $10 gift card for all Birthday Club subscribers, to be used on 375 mL and 750 mL bottle purchases (average price ~$30-$60+ each).
This coupon is also valid for one month before and after your birthday, giving it the longest validity period of specials on this list!
Birthday Discounts from Threadbare Cider House
Threadbare Cider House in the North Side offers a birthday club feature for a free pizza and $5 off a bottle in their shop for your birthday! Click here to sign up to submit your information.
$10 Off Your Meal at The Original Oyster House
The oldest restaurant in Pittsburgh, The Original Oyster House, offers a $10 coupon for your next meal up to 30 days after your birthday if you join their Birthday Club. Considering nearly everything on their menu is under $10, this means it is likely your entire meal will be free!
Free Milkshake from Burgatory
Love the heavenly milkshakes from Burgatory? If you join their mailing list you'll receive a coupon for a free milkshake on your birthday! The coupon is good for seven days from the send date of the email, which is typically your birthday. When you receive it you are told to not open the discount code file (a ‘click here' link) until you are at Burgatory as it shows a countdown timer of five minutes to show the code to your server.
Birthday Freebies from Eat'n Park and Hello Bistro
The regional restaurant chain Eat'n Park is in on the birthday coupons bandwagon, as they offer discounts for email list members throughout the year!
Likewise, their offshoot bistro chain, Hello Bistro, also offers a free meal for your birthday if you are a member of their mailing list! (Validity period and exact details of the offer are unknown.)

I just got a free dessert at my fave place, Central Diner, in Robinson because it was my birthday!
Nakama offers a free dinner entree or lunch entree for your birthday. It’s good until the end of your birthday month as well.

Six Penn Kitchen has an email club and offers a birthday and anniversary dinner. I believe it is a buy one/get one free up to a certain value.
Houlihans does a free birthday dinner up to a certain amount it used to be a free dinner but they now have a limit can’t remember what it is but food is great there
mailing list gets you free entree at houlihan’s.
Claddagh Irish pub in south side is great and if you join the golden circle email list you receive $5 off your meal and a birthday present
While it is an awesome deal, please update your information about the Big Burrito group. The coupon that comes in the mail is valid starting date of your birthday through one week later (not valid Saturdays)…..NOT one week before and after your birthday. Mine just arrived today (7/26/17), so I know. It’s a minor change, but it will make a difference when planning reservations. Thanks!
