Every great city should have a museum dedicated to its local history, and in Pittsburgh, that honor belongs to the Heinz History Center- named for the Heinz family whose ketchup and other condiments were made nearby.
To say that the Heinz History Center covers the entire history of western Pennsylvania is an understatement. There are exhibits focusing on the early settlements, glass and steelmaking, modern history, inventions, sports history, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and so much more- there is even an exhibit focusing on the history of Heinz products as well (naturally)!
Be sure to allocate a fair bit of time here, because this massive museum warrants many hours exploring when visiting.
