Beaver Falls is located about 45 minutes northwest of Pittsburgh and is a charming little community home to Beaver Brewing Company, Geneva College, and a Buttermilk Falls (one of many so named waterfalls in the state) to name a few.

During a recent visit we were in the mood for something to eat, and were directed to D&G Pizza right next to the brewery for a few slices to enjoy with our beer.

Their preferred cut? Ohio Valley style pizza made famous in the region by the likes of Beto's and others.

D&G Pizza

Ohio Valley style pizza is traditionally thick, square cuts that are often cooked with sauce (and occasionally small amounts of cheese) only. After baking the cuts are then topped with mounds of cold toppings and served.

We are still hung up on whether we like this style of pizza outright, as the contrast of cold toppings with a hot pizza base is still, well, weird to us.

D&G Pizza takes a relatively middle-of-the-road approach to this style and is more reserved with their toppings (unlike local icon Beto's) which allows the flavors of the hot crust and sauce to shine through a bit more.

The crust itself is on the crunchier end of the spectrum for this style, which could also be a turn off for some as well.

The true highlight of D&G pizza, to us, is that a large slice of plain pizza runs just $1 with toppings coming in at about $0.30 each per slice. This means that patrons who want two slices (an ample amount of food for many) could get by on just about $3.00, and the hungriest of patrons can have a four slice feast for roughly $6.00 depending on your topping choices. And if four doesn't seem like much, trust us- it is a lot of food!

It is also worth noting that D&G Pizza is takeout only, and while there is a small bench where you could sit down and devour your hot pizza right away, we have an alternative recommendation. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights head next door to Beaver Brewing Company for a beer to go with your pizza!

We did this on our visit and have to say, the duo is hard to beat and will be our staple any time we make it up to Beaver Falls moving forward.

D&G Pizza is located at 1818 7th Avenue in Beaver Falls, PA.
