In May 2025, we were told Mi Cita was temporarily closed. We will update this article once we hear if/when it reopens.

One thing we often wish Pittsburgh had more of is great bars with a robust food menu as delicious as their beverages. There are many places to drink, of course, but when it comes to adding on an entire meal to go along with it, we often want more.

At the small plates bar and lounge, Mi Cita in Sewickley, we got just that, and this is the kind of place where we could go to eat on its own just as much as we would for drinks.

Whether you're heading to this one for food, drinks, or both, you are in for a treat!

Mi Cita is a Welcoming Cocktail Bar in Sewickley

Miso Mule and Elote y Olei at Mi Cita

The first thing you'll notice when walking into Mi Cita is its ambiance. The space is split into two distinct areas, with bar seating at the front and a spacious, colorful lounge at the back. Although we ended up grabbing seats at the bar to chat with the bartenders, this is the kind of place that offers style and comfort levels for all interests.

The cocktail program of the menu features predominantly unique house creations; however, we'll note that a small number of drinks towards the end of the menu were nods to classic styles like a gimlet, Sazerac, and others.

We ended up sampling five cocktails over our evening at Mi Cita, although if it were possible to enjoy more, we would have. The menu is one of those that we want to order just about everything!

Miso Mule and Elote y Olei at Mi Cita

Our first round we decided to lean into some of the more esoteric creations on the menu with the Elote y Oleo and Miso Mule.

The Miso Mule was a rice vodka base with a tangy and rich miso shrub, lime, truffle tamari, plum, and ginger. It came packed with the vinegar hit from the shrub that rounded out beautiful, but not overpowering, earthy notes that we thoroughly enjoy.

Elote y Oleo was perhaps the most out-there drink of the evening and was made with a base of blackstrap rum, corn, garlic, habanero, sour cream foam, and Tajín. I know what you may be thinking here, but the sweet and savory balance really worked well to highlight an almost chocolatey sweetness from the rum, and the sour cream foam was smooth and not as tangy as we expected- certainly an interesting flavor combination given all the ingredients.

Beauty & The Beets

We followed those two with a round of Beauty & The Beets (Icelandic gin base with beet shrub and bergamot) and the Oakey Smokey Artichokey (also Icelandic gin base with Cynar, Japanese sake, vermouth, black lava salt, and smoke) and loved the intensity of flavor of these in the beet and smoke/Cynar notes respectively. If you are fond of those flavors, these are sure to please.

Perhaps the most interesting cocktail of the night, and our personal favorite, was the Caipira Cura- a play on the classic Caipirinha with Cachaca, garlic, honey, lemon, and sugar. We were told that historically this mix was used as a healing elixir before it was popularized in its current cocktail form, and the garlic added a beautiful vegetal undertone that was present but blended in nicely with the drink (don't be afraid of garlic on a cocktail menu!).

Be Sure to Add On Some Delicious Small Plates

White Bean Dip and Beef Tartare

On the food front, Mi Cita exclusively focuses on small plates in tapas-style format. We had originally thought we'd have a plate or two here before heading elsewhere for dinner in Sewickley, but after enjoying our first round of drinks and bites, we decided to stay and make a full dinner out of it (and oh, are we glad we did!).

The menu at the time of our visit included a mix of fun dips (like chicken liver mousse, beef tartare, and white bean dip), deviled eggs, crudo, lump crab on potato waffles, and charcuterie platters to name a few.

Although we were expecting small plates when ordering, as is common when dining tapas style, the portions were considerable, and three to four plates would make for a solid meal for two.

Each dish came with some fun flavor additions. The beef tartare was topped with horseradish truffle cream and egg yolk jam, the white bean dip had a lovely black garlic and roasted red pepper salsa on top, the lump crab was served on top of a crispy potato waffle with huancaina sauce, salt-cured olive, and egg yolk jam, and more.

It feels a bit weird to gush about something as simple as white bean dip, but somehow, they managed to highlight some stellar flavors all around.

Lump Crab on Potato Waffle

The star of the evening, however, was the lump crab. The ample portion of crab and the crispy potato waffle made for a generous portion, and the unique sauces dabbed on top made it worth the splurge- while reasonably priced, it was the most expensive item on the menu outside of the charcuterie platter for two.

Be sure to save room for dessert, too, as the rice krispie treat with brown butter, rosemary, and thyme was a delightfully herb-forward treat that really packed a hit of rosemary!

Overall, we walked out of Mi Cita already talking about when we would go back. It isn't every day a new bar hits us with a cocktail menu where we want to try literally everything, and having a robust menu of small plates that was equally impressive really hits it out of the park.
