Local cocktail master, Sean Enright, has a new cocktail bar opening Wednesday, October 4th, in Millvale. Poetry Lounge replaces Whisper Nest and is a welcomed addition to the Millvale libations scene!

Deadfish on Indefinite Hiatus
The popular Thai/barbecue food popup, deadfish, has announced they will be on indefinite hiatus as the chef is moving overseas. An Instagram Story post suggested a possible return, but for now this one appears to be closed.
Spice Island Tea House Closing
Oakland staple, Spice Island Tea House, will be closing at the end of September after 28 years in operation. The last day for dine-in service will be September 28th and takeout September 30th.

Page Dairy Mart Last Day of Season Announced
South Side's popular ice cream shop, Page Dairy Mart, announced the final day of the 2023 season will be October 16th. Customers are advised that the 16th will be a partial day of operations with hours to be announced.
Double Wide Grill Rebranding (Plus a Halloween Popup)
South Side staple, Double Wide Grill, will be serving its final meal on October 1st and will be transitioning over to a new concept, Spork Island Trading Company (with the former Spork Pit BBQ of Garfield) in early 2024. Throughout the month of October, a pop-up bar will be present called The Cannibal Clown Cafe.

The Yard Shadyside Closing End of September
The popular local grilled cheese restaurant, The Yard, will be closing its Shadyside location at the end of September after nine years. They are said to be looking for a new location in the East End and the other locations will remain open.
Kura Sushi Opening September 17th
The revolving sushi restaurant chain, Kura Sushi, is opening its first Pittsburgh location at South Side Works on Sunday, September 17th at noon. The first 100 guests on the 17th, 18th, and 19th will receive a free tote bag. Regular hours will begin Wednesday, September 20th. The restaurant will operate seven days a week.

Row House Cinemas Expanding with Acquisition of Dormont Theater
Popular independent movie house, Row House Cinemas, has acquired the Hollywood Theater in Dormont. They will be hosting a free open house on October 1st and a lineup of Halloween inspired movies will follow throughout the month.
Blue Dust in Homestead Closing
The popular Homestead gastropub, Blue Dust, announced they will be closing on September 17th after 15 years in business.

Deutschtown Deli Now Open
The team behind Fig & Ash and Fat Cat are expanding their East Ohio Street dominance with the opening of Detuschtown Deli. Even better? Brothmonger will be making soups there, too!
The fast casual deli is located in the former Coop Chicken & Waffles location at the intersection with Cedar and is open Monday to Fridays from 10am to 3pm.
Back to the Foodture Becomes The Foodture
The popular burger and wings restaurant, Back to the Foodture, announced it was closing permanently a few weeks ago due to copyright lawsuits with Universal Studios. Now, the restaurant is seemingly re-opening its Uptown location with a slightly changed name, The Foodture. The South Side location is said to remain closed at this time.

Three Brothers Bagels Opens in Glenshaw
A new bagel shop, Three Brothers Bagels, is opening on August 22nd at 1718 Mount Royal Blvd in Glenshaw, PA. The bakery is said to make hand rolled bagels using flour from Butler, PA. The store will be open Tuesday to Saturdays from 7am to 2pm.
Cinderlands Foederhouse Rebrands
Cinderlands Beer Co. has changed the concept of their Lawrenceville location, the Foederhouse, to become a sandwich and beer shop called Long Story Short. The new concept opened its doors on August 15th.

Two Area Breweries Closing Soon
Two area breweries, Arboretum Trail Brewing Co in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood and Mastic Trail Brewing in Glenshaw have announced they will both be closing shortly. Arboretum's last day has been announced as August 31st and Mastic Trail's last day is September 2nd. Arboretum is likely still planning to brew and will be focusing on distribution for the time being.

Flowers Meet Fashion at Phipps Extended
The flower show, Flowers Meet Fashion: Inspired by Billy Porter, has been extended at Phipps Conservatory for another time. This gorgeous flower show will now run at the conservatory through September 10th. Reservations are strongly recommended.

New Pop-Up Bar at Butcher and the Rye
After a decent run as an Apres Ski themed bar in the winter, downtown restaurant Butcher and the Rye is back with a new pop-up bar concept focusing on tropical drinks with a tiki-like vibe. As of now, this one is open Friday and Saturday nights and does not accept reservations.
Wilson's Bar-B-Q Re-Opening in a New Location
The North Side barbecue staple, Wilson's Bar-B-Q is re-opening after the 2019 fire destroyed their location in the Mexican War Streets. The new Wilson's will be located at 2615 Perrysville in Perry South. Grand opening weekend is August 11th and 12th from 12 to 7pm.

Galley at Bakery Square Becomes City Kitchen
The popular restaurant, Galley at Bakery Square (sister restaurant to Federal Galley in the North Side) is no more. The owners of the building terminated their lease with the galley operators and are moving forward with new concepts under the new City Kitchen branding.
