Fuel and Fuddle Review – Pub Fare in Oakland

Fuel and Fuddle is closing on May 26th, 2023.

A recent visit to Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood brought us to the popular bar and grill restaurant, Fuel and Fuddle, where we got to take in a few beers as well as some traditional pub fare.

Although we left this one not entirely impressed, for those who want to have a good night out at a bar in Oakland (especially of-age college students) this one is a great stop to check out.

Lola Bistro Review – International Cuisine in the North Side

Cioppino at Lola Bistro in the North Side

Lola Bistro appears to be permanently closed.

Lola Bistro on the North Side is a cute, cozy spot in a residential neighborhood that describes itself as serving international comfort cuisine.

Offering dishes from many different countries around the world and executing them all equally well is an ambitious goal, but in theory we are big fans of the concept. It's the kind of restaurant that we really want to like- but we think it needs a few tweaks before it will be there 100%.

Butcher and the Rye Review – Whiskey and Modern Cuisine

Whiskey at Butcher and the Rye

Note: Butcher and the Rye has been closed since the COVID pandemic and the space is currently being used as rotating pop-up bars. We hope that Butcher and the Rye will return soon.

Butcher and the Rye is one of the hottest restaurants in Pittsburgh, and guess where it is? Downtown!

We've always thought that this is one part of the city that needs more unique restaurants, and hearing about people going downtown just to eat is welcomed news.

In fact, so many people are trying to eat at Butcher and the Rye that it is quite difficult to get a reservation. We tried for weeks to get a table on a Saturday night that worked with our schedules, and after trying for quite some time we were finally able to get in at 9PM by calling just over a week in advance.

Not knowing when we'd make it back and that reservations are hard to come by, we went all out.

BRGR Review – Mixed Burger Reactions in Pittsburgh

Truffle Cheese Whiz Fries at BRGR

The following review is based on our visit to BRGR's East Liberty location which closed in 2020. The chain has seemingly closed its remaining locations since then.

One of the fastest growing burger chains in Pittsburgh is BRGR, which has locations in East Liberty, Cranberry, and even PNC Park to name a few. Featuring gourmet burgers, ample side combinations, and a fully-stocked bar at their full service restaurants, BRGR was created to satisfy the burger needs of hungry Pittsburghers.

Unfortunately for us, our visit to try these popular burgers amounted to a rare miss.

Tony’s Pub Review – Burgers and War Streets Beer

It appears that Tony's Pub closed just a few months after purchasing the former Bier's Pub. We are unsure if this one is reopening.

We've heard rumors that Tony's Pub (formerly Bier's Pub) in the North Side is the place to be in the neighborhood, and our visit during a Sunday Brunch confirmed that rumor the second we walked in the door.

To put it simply, the restaurant was packed– mostly because it is one of the only restaurants open on Sunday in the North Side. Throw in great beer, a brunch special Bloody Marys and you have a great reason to come in to try one of their popular burgers.
